Nomba is Now Licensed to Power Payments in the DRC

How We Built the Infrastructure for Cross-Border Payments into the Democratic Republic of Congo

    By Nomba | February 2026

The Democratic Republic of Congo is one of the most underserved markets for cross-border payments in Africa. Every year, the Congolese diaspora sends billions of dollars home to support families, fund businesses, and invest in their communities. But getting that money into DRC has always been slow, expensive, and unreliable.

    That changes today.

Nomba has been granted both the Messenger Financier License and the Aggregator License by the Banque Centrale du Congo (BCC). This makes Nomba one of the few fintechs with full regulatory approval to facilitate payments into and out of DRC.

    What These Licenses Mean

    Messenger Financier License

The Messenger Financier License authorizes Nomba to act as an intermediary for international money transfers into DRC. This means we can receive funds from remittance companies, payment providers, and financial institutions worldwide, and settle them locally in Congolese Francs (CDF) or USD.

    Aggregator License

The Aggregator License allows us to connect multiple payout channels—banks, mobile money operators, and cash pickup networks—through a single integration. Instead of building separate integrations with each provider, our partners get access to the entire DRC payment ecosystem through one API.

Together, these licenses position Nomba as a full-stack infrastructure provider for anyone looking to move money into or out of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

    The Infrastructure We've Built

Licenses are just the starting point. Over the past year, we've built deep integrations with the DRC's financial infrastructure, processing millions of dollars in transactions already.

    Real-Time Settlement

Our infrastructure settles transactions in minutes, not days:

    • Bank transfers: Funds typically arrive within minutes during business hours
    • Mobile money transfers: Settle in under 60 seconds

This speed is made possible by our direct integrations and local treasury operations in Kinshasa.

Why This Matters for Remittance Companies

If you're a remittance company serving the Congolese diaspora, you know the challenges:

→ Limited banking infrastructure makes it hard to reach recipients outside major cities

→ Fragmented mobile money networks require multiple integrations

→ Slow settlement times frustrate senders and recipients alike

→ Regulatory complexity creates compliance headaches

→ High costs from correspondent banking and multiple intermediaries

Nomba solves all of these with a single integration. One API gives you access to banks, mobile money, and real-time settlement—with BCC compliance built in.

    What We Offer Partners

For remittance companies, cross-border payment providers, and payroll platforms, Nomba DRC offers:

    ✓ Single API Integration

Connect once and access every major payout channel in DRC. No need to build and maintain separate integrations.

    ✓ Real-Time Settlement

Bank transfers settle in under 5 minutes. Mobile money in under 60 seconds. Your customers get their money faster.

    ✓ Full Regulatory Compliance

Our Messenger Financier and Aggregator licenses mean you're working with a fully licensed partner. KYC, AML, and reporting are handled.

    ✓ Transparent Pricing

Competitive FX rates and clear fee structures. No hidden costs or surprise charges.

    ✓ Dedicated Support

Our Kinshasa-based operations team provides on-the-ground support for integration, troubleshooting, and scaling.

    The Opportunity

    DRC by the numbers:

    • Africa's largest country by land area
    • Population of over 100 million
    • Formal remittance market: $1 billion+ annually
    • Significant informal flows on top of that

The Congolese diaspora, spread across Europe, North America, and other African nations, represents one of the most underserved remittance corridors on the continent.

As more providers offer reliable, affordable options, this market is poised for substantial growth.

Nomba is building the rails to capture this opportunity—and we're looking for partners to build with us.

    Let's Talk

We're actively onboarding partners who want to offer DRC payouts without building infrastructure from scratch.

    If you're a:

    • Remittance company serving the Congolese diaspora
    • Cross-border payment provider expanding into Central Africa
    • Payroll platform with employees or contractors in DRC
    • NGO or donor organization disbursing funds in-country
    • Any business that needs to move money into DRC reliably

We'd love to hear from you.
